... It's about those who led the charge to duty and country ...

I pause in rememberance
of those who've served -
my Daddy.  Used to tell
me stories, tales that live
on in my mind.  "There I
was ..."  My Daddy's
older brothers:  two in
the Navy (one had three
ships shot out from
under).  One in the Army:
a survivor in every sense
of the word:  Bataan.
Two Army/Air Corps.
Mom's only surviving
brother (the other died in
a fire) was Coast Guard.
All came home, thank
God.  My brother, Air
Force:  a scrawny kid
went in and a man came
out.  Four years, served.
And me, also Air Force.
But like I've said before,
it's not about me.  It's
about the heroes that
led the charge to duty
and country.  I honor
them, all Veterans who
served, some that paid
a terrible cost too much
to bear.  Their families:
can remember Gramma
telling me she won the
"Mother of the Year" in
Cleveland, Ohio because
all of her boys were in
service at the same time:
I'm sure she worried,
waited, wondering if they
would return.  Especially
Uncle Duke (Andrew),
being that he was a POW.
Three thousand plus days
... but those that won't be
coming home have my
ultimate respect and
gratitude.  I remember
and will never forget
what you did for me ...

A remembrance that many can elate to,though you have quite a number of family members, besides yourself so you are steeped in the tradition of service. Very admirable piece of writing Karla! God bless you and all veterans, and thank you!

Eileen

You come from a long line of remembered, Karla, and rightly so. You are an equal part of the commitment to duty, love and service to which you pay due tribute and hommage. May we all be forever free to be slaves of memory in this way. The very best to the very best. xx

The Ode

They shall grow not old,
As we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them,
Nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun,
And in the morning
We will remember them.

Lest we forget.

Wonderful sentiments Karla, mate.

Dave.

Karla,

A beautiful rememberance of our heroes. Although my father lived through World War II, he was shot in the back and could never stand up straight again, plus with the terrible pain at times. My husband lived through Vietnam, but it took his hearing. So many sacrifices, men and women in uniform have suffered for us. It's a time always to be remembered, not just one day.
