Forgotten, once more,
those who raised their hands
and donned uniforms
in defense of their
Nation. They watch from
the sidelines as the
parade marches by,
wondering if the
sacrifices made
were worth it. As we
celebrate the Fourth,
remember it was
those who believed in
the name of Freedom
that gave us the right
to life, liberty
and the pursuit of
happiness. As we
watch the bombs bursting
in air, remember
those who didn't come
home and the loved ones
that they left behind:
Independence Day
bought at a price few
were willing to pay.
For those who did, thank
you. I remember
and will not forget.

I would think it's much easier to focus on the support and respect from normal people rather than the lack of support and respect from the government. The government is a cold entity, and it always will be. Great poem!

This was beautiful Karla. I just hope their bravery was not for nothing. As fast as we blink an eye, our own Government is throwing us to the wolves. This will be the saddest 4th I've known.

Sad that more and more instead of reading of the celebrations of the births of our countries instead I see poems that makes us realize perhaps our pride in our country is not so justified as we think. Well done.
