when i moved to texas twenty years ago,
they teased me about my accent, don't you know,
"where you from? i know y'all ain't from around here,"
do i sound that funny, my accent that clear??

where i'm from (ohio), we didn't say "y'all,"
"you guys" is what we said, whenever we called,
"fixin' to" was never, never, EVER said,
if you said that, you would be laughed at, instead!

texas folk don't let very much get them riled,
the only thing is, a yankee drives 'em wild!
'specially if they move here (and never leave)
they will treat you nice, but do not be deceived,

they'll laugh at you, politely, behind their backs,
they'll say a texas accent is what you lack,
they'll give you lessons on how to be southern,
but a yankee i'll always be...that i learned,

i might pick up some texan, along the way,
but my yankee accent will always betray,
"where y'all from? y'all ain't from the south!" (awww, man!) then,
"gotta lose that tawlk, you wanna be texan!"

i got to texas just as fast as i could,
i still don't talk texan as good as i should,
c'mon, y'all, give this poor old yankee a break,
sometimes, my yankee will slip out...BIG mistake,

i don't want no feudin', don't want no fussin',
if my yankee slips out, y'all don't start cussin',
i promise to do better, given the chance,
besides, 'nuther thing i learned, it's how to dance!!
