taking a little trip
to visit relatives
in cleveland, ohio
*not again*
*always a nightmare*
it wasn't that we didn't
want to see our relatives
we did
honest
we just didn't like the fights
our parents
always
got into a fight
dad driving
dad always drove
mom next seat driving
in the passenger seat
the kids piled
in the back
of the station wagon
karen, kenny and i
fighting over
who got to sit
in the very back
'cause we liked
sitting backwards
and waving
at all we passed
getting the big rigs
to **HONK**
that used to tickle us
and get the folks mad
*stop DOING that*
see
they were both born
in cleveland, ohio
they remember how it used to be
and *i think*
they didn't realize
cleveland's gotten
a whooooole lot bigger
than from when they were kids
anyway
get on the highway heading north
we'd get into cleveland
and the fights would commence
*let's get ready to ruuuuuuuuuuum-ble*
**ding**
mom: honey you turn here
dad: no we don't
mom: yes you do
dad: no honey
mom: yes honey
ducking and dodging
dodging and ducking
dad: no--
mom: yes--
dad: no we--
mom: YES, DONALD YOU DO
by then we've missed the exit
mom: you were supposed to turn back there
dad: *HUGE sigh* mutters under breath
mom would pull out the map
mom: see you take XX exit*
dad: *HUGE sigh*
mom: then you--
dad: DO YOU WANNA DRIVE
mom: *HUGE sigh*
then ice cold silence
then one of the kids invariably piped up with
*how long until--* or
*i gotta go potttttyyyyy*
both: WHEN WE GET THERE or
WHY DIDN'T YOU GO BACK AT THE HOUSE NOW SHADDAP
dad invariably would get lost
mom: see i TOLD you--
dad: will you BE QUIET i know where i'm at
mom: if you knew that why are we lost?
dad: swearing under breath
kids: awwwwww daddy said--
both: SHADDUP
karen or karla: they're gonna get a divoooorce *busting out in tears*
everytime we heard the parents
fighting
we thought they were going to get a divorce
mom: no we're not--it's just your daddy got lost
one of the kids: AGAIN
dad: SHADDUP
one of the kids: weren't you a naviguesser in the air force
mom: *laughing* "naviguesser" is right
**ding ding**
end of the round
Great write Karla, I can relate to a lot of it from the past myself. methinks all families are alike in many ways.

Hey, girl. If you are in the Cleveland area the same time I am, stop by the Huron Public Library on the 3rd of September and give a holler. Love the poem.
ah, yes...how well i remember mom and daddy's fights. we were always so scared they were going to get a divorce everytime they fought! so glad they didn't (but i wonder how they kept their sanity with five rambunctious kids about! LOL)! aDORable write full of humor and fun memories! :D (((HUGS))) and much love, your twin, karen lynn.
always loved sitting in the back of the station wagon because we waved to everyone, and we loved the big trucks honkin' their air horns at us; that was sooooo cool! LOL
The Wholly Book of Genesis is a humorous satire on the first book of the Old Testament where the Story of Creation, the building of Noah's Ark, Sodom and Gomorrah and the families of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are thoroughly spoofed and broadsided.
Fractured Frazzled Folk Fables and Fairy Farces is adult literature that satirizes famous children's stories, fables and fairy tales. The work is Jay Dubya's twenty-first e-book available in Amazon Kindle and Barnes and Noble Nook.
