                               Banging in the night

Gnawing teeth alive

Above my head

Above my bed

Causing strife

Half asleep

I used my cane

But in vain

Bothered not the creep

It moved away

From to fro

Do re me fa so

More music did it play

It had no fear

It gnawed all night

Till daylight bright

And dawn was here

So I thought

With eyes still bleary

You gnawed your last my deary

A trap I bought

And then my heart it spake

Make friends instead

To wish it dead

For heavens sake

Bought a slice of cheese

And put it in the trap

Then soon I heard the clap

But just a little tease

I am here to please

And put another

To see if it would bother

That too it took with ease

And soon it found it to its liking

Brought friends and buddies too

Gnawed holes outside to woo

More and more inviting

More holes now in the ceiling too

Whacking with my cane

They’re driving me insane

Like being in a zoo

Good natured by design

I thought what can I do

Pots and pans now full of poo

What can I do instead of wine?

Aha I said, I got it dude

Fight back, keep them awake

Do likewise unto them my mate

Went out and bought a flute

While all is quiet in the day

Them resting sound asleep

Id wake them with a beep

And music I would play

Being novice to a tune

Created havoc to their ears

And drove them all to tears

Kept them awake till noon

Not long it took

For them to notice

The change that is

The banging I forsook

Nature called them now outdoors

The cheese ran out

It got too laud

Evacuated roof and floors

I wished them well

In their endeavour

All of them forever

Halleluiah I did yell

All this practice first a terror

To little creatures cute and small

Say, blessed be they all

Play flute now without error

The only banging now I do

On drums of steel

That's how I feel

Until a mate I woo
