The River of Murky Mist

A snake crossed
the river of murky mist
he lifted his head
as chills run
coarsing through my spine
looking up into the trees
the water seems to call
mindful of my presence
the river of lime stone
a sandy bottom
sucked up my soul

Looking up into the sky
as memories collide
with this moment in time
this river of unending water
many times before & after
it haunts me

A snaked crossed
the river of murky mist
the water washes over me
I remember being a child
as memories collide
with this sadness
being here in another sky
another sun shining
the water
coarsing through the past

A snake crossed
the river of no returns
he lifted his head
I stand alone
staring into my vacant mind
silence becomes me
I am the water
the murky mist is me
as chills run
coarsing through my veins
I awaken today
flowing over lime stone
a sandy bottom
sucked up my soul

Epiphany by Gary Stephens

“We’re going to use nine megaton warheads in space and we’re not sure they’re large enough to be effective. Why would you even consider using kiloton-range surface-to-air warheads as back-up?” The answer was succinct. “Because they’re all we have.”
