a miserable amount of driving only to walk through his door
and realize unexpectedly that I didn't recognize him anymore
there were shotglasses that they so quaintly bought in Florida together
clothes thrown here and there, toothbrush
hairdryer, shaving cream, shampoo
all the things that made his apartment stink
all the things that made my stomach roil with revulsion
she'd walked in, spread her legs...
and dumped all of her nastiness into his life
a miserable amount of driving
only to have him come home and frantically beg me to go
apparently he hadn't told her I was coming
but I have this way of being rather indignant
of putting my foot down hard enough to make plaster crumble below
and refusing to budge in the face of true resistance
and so she came in to find me sitting at his table
-much to her surprise and dramatic delight-
and before I could so much as lift a hand in hello
she was opening her gaping black hole
in an attempt to suck me into her pathetic world
I saw the flames of Satan licking at her teeth
could smell the rotten flesh of hell entwined in her breath
and there she did try to destroy me
but I have this way of smiling in the face of trailer trash
so I bought her a pack of cigarettes
intentionally a stronger brand
(if only to aid her in her death wish)
and I wrapped my arms around her neck
molded my body along her frigidness
and asked for forgiveness
over her shoulder he studied me nervously
sweat popping up on his brow
his Adam's apple bobbing almost rhythmically
I let her go just short of suffocation
her dog was this little brown furry creature
bits of hair flying loose to waft through the thick air of his apartment
it ran like a penguin
the front legs lifting in unison and falling again in comic repetition
that got it to it's goal with a ridiculous amount of effort
I couldn't help but curl up my nose
as it drug it's fat little belly towards me
and sniffed at my sneakers haughtily
before it turned, presenting me with an unobstructed view
of it's hairy ass
she had a way of lifting her brows at me
giving me this look over the table full of cards that said:
"Oh I know you're stupid but are you really that stupid?"
A challenge to see if I'd back down
her beady eyes glaring at me as if she'd devour me
and I'd sit on my hands and bite my lips
in an effort to keep from blurting my sudden revelation
that owners really do resemble their pets afterall.

As spiteful as it was..I died laughing at having read the last line. Great job. Excellent imagry as always, and truely, hiden messages that aren't exactly hidden.
Clever in places. Was lost by some of the more heavy handed tone. I thought this could be good if you tightened it. Liked the details, the shot glasses and stuff bought in Fla.
A poignant story about letting go of a narcissist in your life. Have you ever been attacked FULL force by a narcissist? It's the closest thing to being stabbed over and over in the back.
A page-turning novel about a relationship between best friends that is interrupted because of betrayal , deceit, sexual promiscuity and pregnancy happens!
Liked the last line.
and i love your work
I could not have said it better.
Cheers
