pretty girls don't write didn't I tell you honey you'll never be close to me don't love those words yet you gotta be plain girl oh fuck yeah just like me pretty girls don't hurt can't you see here comes the stomping chorus to bring you down how foolish little girl you really thought you could be me oh fuck yeah just like me black eyes, dirty face thats what it takes in a man's world to hell with grace pretty girls never get ahead they only find themselves looking up at girls like me pink-bubble-gum-choked minds feeble minds that never get it oh fuck yeah just girls like me.

Ani DiFranco herself could not have said it better. Very nicely turned, and full of the raw passion that separates a poet from a mere writer of poetry.

I agree with you, April. Sometimes "Pretty" works as a disadvantage. It's about how others perceive a pretty girl. My poem "The Vase" was just talking about this.
