Mother Nature's Wrath

a thunderstorm in the forest

The mighty oaks stand proudly with
their many, many brothers
Chilly autumn winds begin to howl
forcing all the swirling leaves
gold, green, red and brown
to desert their demanding masters.

Suddenly, the once blue sky
turns to an ominous gray.

Claps of thunder
shake the earth
 A fearful sun runs away.
Gray clouds roll and wander
Lightening shows fill the darkened sky.

A gentle rain cries on the earth until
the clouds burst open wide
A virtual waterfall with howling wind
laugh at the once peaceful sky

The storm is ended, but just for now
A timid sun now shows its face.
Knowing the storm will come back another day.

The majestic trees now barren, a sign
that winter is drawing near.
But the mighty oaks, over 100 years old,
and 100 feet tall, will always laugh
in the face of Mother Nature’s wrath.

Ah, the timeless, enduring oak. Too bad so many have been cut down by man's hand! How I love a good storm!
Nice write, Mary, much enjoyed.

Mary,

Powerfully imaged in verse, Mother Nature's wrath - she's been mad a lot this year, hasn't she? Day in, night out of severe weather - well penned.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
