An autumn leaf wafts gently to
the ground. I marvel at its kaleidoscope of color
Green, yellows, oranges and browns,
Yet, it’s beauty is a sad thing, for
although a wonder, the leaf is now gone.
Looking in my bathroom mirror,
I see much the same thing,
A gray hair falls on the sink,
A sign of life that lived so graciously
But now that life is gone away.
Thinking back to the autumn leaf
and the gray hair, aren’t they really the same?
One represents the end of a season, but what
about the life that it has seen? Lovers
kissing under its shade, children playing,
the birds that sing.. How much has it heard,
if I could only be a leaf on a tree.
And what about the hair of gray
Falling from an aging head ? For though
that gray hair is no more, what secrets
and stories it could tell. Of children playing,
laughter, tears, it’s impossible to know it’s
life through the years.
Think if you will of these two things,
the fallen leaf and the graying hair.
Though they are both now gone, they
were once full of life, they’ve given all…
The wisdom of age and the grace of fall
The sensitivity and wisdom you have is so wonderful! Thank you for sharing your gift.
