Sometimes you should stay in bed.

I’ll never forget that fateful day,
Waking up to face the desert’s blue sky
How strange, the sun ran away.

In it’s wake, ominous clouds scanned overhead
The rain would come fast, we just weren’t sure when.
Like fools, we drove to work, although we were
warned about the might of this storm.

We arrived  and within one hour were told
to hurry and leave.  Everything was flooded,
wind was howling, rain was so hard we couldn’t see.

We never made it out the front gate,  there was
nothing but a river, we were already too late.
We waited for the rain to subside or the road
to reappear, no luck we were simply stuck here.

Thirty miles from home in a remote place,
How were we ever going to get out that gate?
That’s when we noticed some cars starting
to go, where were they headed, we didn’t
care and didn’t want to know.

After traveling miles to nowhere, bumps on
the road, water everywhere, all we knew is
we wanted to go home!

Traveling for hours, what was this about?
Where were we at, that’s when I saw the sign
that told our route.  We were so far north,
we were 100 miles from town,  this is
what they call the long way around.

Finally making it home after all of that mess,
Next time we’ll listen, and as for that awful
day, never, ever again!

Ah yes, the power of nature. I have been known to have underestimated it with regard to snow; and I thank God for angels. Thank you for the reminder, Mary. Love and best wishes to you,

Regis

Although in a way this was humorous, I could feel the tension within the words. Being stranded by rising water is not something to be made light of, and to be able to survive it depends of a stroke of luck and self will.
