Perceptions

Wrote this one a while ago...just for fun! Things are not always as we perceive them to be...giggle...

The city quickly rushes by the window
A blur to the empty eyes within!
They stare, but don’t really see, as
Rain like teardrops rolls across the glass.
They are lost in their own perceptions
Of the world rushing by!
Clickety-clack! The steel rail melody drones on
The bulging subway car rocking
Back and forth…occasionally dislodging
One of the creatures wedged tightly into its belly.
Familiarity clashes with unfamiliarity, as
Passengers pressed against each other
Struggle to maintain an air of indifference!
A young man in a pricey suit
Surrenders his seat to a sweet little old lady
Who gratefully acknowledges his chivalry
Before tucking his wallet into her pocket.
A beautiful young blonde in the aisle
Short black skirt, shapely legs spread, bracing herself.
Enjoying the view with a devious smirk
The old gent seated beside her leans over
Brushing non-existent dust from his worn suede shoes.
Sitting up stiffly, red faced, heart pounding,
He realizes she’s no woman!
And the city quickly rushes by the window
A blur to the empty eyes within!

OMG, I would be mortified if that happened in reverse. Tee Hee. I laughed buckets over this; a most engaging and clever write! Love it!

This reads like a great review of a blockbuster mystery novel. It leaves me feeling like there's a lot more to this story. Bravo Anna, Bravo!!! Dick

Big city deceptions most people would say but how many secrets are behind closed doors in small towns as well...good job Anna.

A story of contradictions that certainly falls within the realm of "perception" stating that all is not as it seems... Very thoughtful words from you, Anna.

I love this vivid description of subway life in the big city. I remember my brother's admonishment before my first subway ride. “Don't look anyone in the eye, they might take offense and stab you.” Still, it was hard for me not to catch the eye of a beautiful woman just to see how she would respond. I once said that experience in a crowded student cafeteria. Only she was really a she and not a he. ;-)
