'wore a villain’s hat'

Poem Artwork

Vaguely threatened in a menacing manner

He hinted un-discreetly about being your

worst nightmare – was wise to sleep with one

eye opened ; liked  to slip into your bedroom

when the lights went out . . .

He would jimmy the lock and come in through

Your bedroom window; he was dressed in black

and wore a villain’s hat – had on dark shades

to cover up his skeletal remains; smoked a smelly

stogie; blew the smoke in your face . . .

Had on a trench-coat which carried all his tools

Of the trade; each one designed to torture and

bring you to tears – Johnny Darkly was one mean

son-of-a gun; was known far and wide; could even

slip by any household security . . .

When he entered your room, wouldn’t even wipe

His dirty boots; made sure you were fast asleep; then

opened up his trench-coat – exposed his bones, he had

no meat; then whipped it out; his goose down feather

to which he would tickle the bottom of your feet . . .

Then opened up a jar containing a mosquito or two

Would buzz your ears; and to make matters worse, he’d

go into your bathroom – would make the toilet run; let

the faucet drip; put alum in your mouth so you’d want

to get a drink of water . . .

And the piece’ de resistance was his box of spiders; dumped

Them on your pillow; and before he departed, he would pull

your blankets and sheets off – and put ice cubes down your

jammies (okay, read on for all those with dirty thoughts);

and as a parting gift, would loudly fart . . . !
