'The reign in Francaise falls mainly on the plain [folk] . . . '

Poem Artwork

The roots go back to viva la France

King Louis XVI – ‘Jack’; and Queen

Marie Antoinette -  ‘Gill’; who both went

tentatively to rule Francaise during the Reign

of Terror circa1793 . . .

So, here we go – “Then one-upmanship

did ‘Jack’ commit on the peasants under

[spy]glass as-fast-as he could scamper; to

Gill his wife who gave him bicarbonate of

soda after drinking well-water . . .

And then the inmates from the Bastille did

storm the palace and take the King and Queen

[for a day] hostage yelling, “Avec leurs chefs!”

and brought them to the guillotine – “Do you

‘ave any last request . . . ?”

“Oui, mon ami;”  We would both like to see Paree

in ze springtime!”  “Veri funny;”  “Now off with their

heads!”  “Again, any last request?”  “Oui, we would

both like our favorite book placed in ze basket by

the guillotine’s chopping block . . .”

“Qu'est-ce que c'est, pourquoi votre livre préféré?”

(“What is this, why your favorite book?”)  “And, to

‘ave both books opened to where ze marker is; “Zat

way, we can both get a little [a] head in our reading!”

“What next ‘Jack’, cake . . . ?”

Lance,
What a riot!...sorry...the dialogues are too funny, mocking and serious all at once, your light whimsical touch sending up a very dramatic and indeed deadly situation. Excellent!
