Dreams can bring back times past incredibly clearly and make one wonder what happened.
Strawberry Fields
I had a dream I remembered We were young Me maybe fourteen You not quite Both of us going on Would-be lovers I remember the strawberry fields How meeting you Made me forget the toil From morn till late afternoon I remember The secret sorties Our shared stories In nearby woods Taste of your strawberry lips Scent of your skin Kissed a little too harshly By an ardent sun Of aging June I remembered you again As I cycled today Along our former strawberry fields Now a housing subdivision With paved roads Suburban structures Of would-be homes With molly-coddled lawns And manicured bushes Where we’d never have shared A single story And most certainly not A single secret Now Not a hint of strawberry scent Amidst the smell of barbecues And gas powered lawnmowers But don’t be sad I remember The Beatles wrote a song About us
'PROGRESS' HAPPENED, REGIS...BUT...THANK GOD FOR THE WONDERFUL

Awesome. Strawberry Fields Forever!!!
A wonderful place to visit to get inspiration...or to be with the one you love. Brings back precious memories. Once again a lovely write.
oh, thank you Regis.......... you have brought back to mind my 'strawberry fields'......and as I traveled the bitter-sweet path, your poem 'sang' in my mind. Wonderful write !

I wrote a poem many years ago entitled 'Strawberry Fields Forever.' I had the Beatles in mind when I penned it for Penthouse Letters.
My version is about an exotic dancer who wears strawberry pasties. AHHHHHHH...yes the visions and scents of yesteryear and how we have all grown well on the literary vine. You are a writer who is ripe and reveling in literary plumpness, well-rounded in form. Thanks for sharing this piece with us.
I've been away- very busy, but I'm back reading and absorbing the good life again, through you and so many others- This is different twist- I like it,Reg-----> With molly-coddled lawns- I felt myself riding on a summers day w/ a friend through the strawb. fields- near home- What a picture- made me head to my frig and grab a few as I kept reading... I enjoyed this ALOT Reg. Thank you for sharing your memories with us- I look forward to reading your Poetry and feelings-Many HuGs 2 U- Lady,SheeeOXO....
Regis,
Such a lovely, nostalgic write. My "favorite place" is now filled with condos fighting for their piece of lakefront property. It makes me a bit sad every time I see it ... they will never know of the youthful passions enjoyed there. I especially liked the way you wrapped up this piece -- what would we have done without the Beatles!
I remember strawberry lip-gloss, white lip-stick, mini-skirts and secrets of my own. Those were the days my sweet and yes they did write a song about you and your love. I always loved 'Into the Mystic' by Van Morrison. Ahhhh, take me back...
Love ya lots, Have a good weekend my friend.

Aha!! Tremendous as ever, Regis... and didn't they just... about ALL of us, I think! Captivating and wide-eyed with wonder and innocence, this is beautifully told and oh the travesty of those gas-powered BBQs and smoking lawnmowers!! Sacrilege!! Can almost taste and smell this write, Regis... and it's sweet! TY LOL Kate xx

How compelling! I just wanted to BE THERE! Good memory, Reg... Some of those early summer memories of the past are s-o-o-o-o vivid, aren't they? Great composition!
I love everything about this, Regis. The images, of course. Your memories and my own touched by the so-real image of you, the poet, biking through the paved subdivision, driving straight through a field of memory. Really wonderful poem here! Dawn
lovely sweet memories...so refreshing
and the pic of strawberries makes me hungry (smile)

I remember my first boyfriend. I was at Sparta, and we had a romance of sorts. We went out behind the cottage where the staff couldn't see us, and we kissed, and we cuddled and looked at the stars and the moon. Even in the Child Center, there was time for teenage romance. Of course, neither one of us wanted to do the sex thing, because then we would be gay, and neither one of us wanted that. It was nice to be treated by one boy in a state institution as the girl I have always been. I am so reminded of him, that it brings wonderful memories back to me, during this emotional weekend. I had one boyfriend then, but didn't have one at Winnebago, because there was really nowhere to sit and cuddle and kiss. But at Sparta, we were allowed to go outside, as long as we were back in by bedtime. the rest of my stay at Sparta and Winnebago, during my entire adolescence was to be lonely, abandoned, mistreated by the staff for no reason. I rebelled because I wasn't allowed to be me; I wasn't allowed to dress in the proper clothes; I wasn't allowed to have my name changed; I wasn't allowed to be this girl I have always been. I cried every day for 5½ years, because of all of this. This poem brings back sweet memories of my boyfriend and I, and the memories of all of the others things I was forced to endure. I felt betrayed, robbed of my innocence, robbed of my identity, robbed of being me. Uhm, well anyway, thnx for sharing bro. May the Lord Jesus bless you and yours, and those whom you love, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, stubborn to a fault, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little terrified sister, Barbie
"If I have to be this girl in me, Then I may as well be."
This vivid dream and the reality of treasured memories can overcome even the sad awareness of residential developments devouring nature's most enchanting places. Your description is beautiful, your gratitude wonderful...great poem, Regis.
....forever, and that is what this poem is about, those kinda movies never fade away they just settle in the heart where we can always replay them when we need them. Wonderful write Regis
You, sir, are a hopeless romantic ... and thank god for that! {wink}

Drat! I meant to comment on this fantastic poem yesterday but something . . . anything . . . everything got in my way. You know how it is. You come very close to outdoing yourself with this nostalgic reverie. I have found out that when we choose to recall we like to suger-coat our past, but strawberry fields ain't sugar-coating, it's fer real, big-time for real. Fantastic. Oh, I said that already.
An amazing, richly imaged poem that evokes multi-sensoral memories and pleasures! Thank you for penning this beautiful write--enjoyed its delicious taste!
This is wonderful! Everybody under age worked the strawberry fields here. Regis, this write brings back memories of my first love and laying in a field of grass which is now a supermarket. We never forget our first love...
Very intimate and poignant...captures the nostalgia- and the sorrow to witness the encroaching machine-culture that reduces it to memory. Is there hope here? Perhaps if we cherish these things in our hearts enough to breathe into them new life.
Wonderful write, Regis. Very poetic but has a realness to it. - I'll be leaving AuthorsDen. Don't have the money to renew. I'm working on books anyway. I wish you all the best. Keep writing!
An exquisite blend of young love recalled in contrast to the realities of modern notions of progress and community. We've yet to take full note of the beauty and innocence we are sacrificing on the chopping block of contemporary anti-culture. Poems such as this one and the Beatles' classic tune make us reconsider.
Ah, what lovely memories you have of the strawberry fields. Yet, a sad commentary of how we now discard the beauty to plant concrete and suburban sprawl! Thank you for sharing this beautiful remembrance.

From word one to the very end, Regis, this had me in goosebumps and my own wandering back a bit. I especially love this:
"Kissed a little too harshly
By an ardent sun
Of aging June"
'aging June'... Sigh, that, my dear, truly is sheer poetry, reality included, as well as vivid imagination. You shared remembered intimacy with a voice that echoed in my head. Melancholy and lovely. katy xox
Beautiful poem, regis, and you very wisely gave the beatles a mention at the end (strawberry fields being another name for john lennon).
You've joined the literary wing of the environmental movement with this succulent offering. k
Regis,
This is probably one of the best poems I've read in a long time. Not only is it written to perfection, it tingles the heart, and mind and just pours inspiration.
From photo to the last word..I enjoyed every morsel.
Memories evoked by sight or scent
make you wonder where time went.
Though details fade
A thought has made
That moment seem so heaven-sent
I don't know why but that 'limerick' is what popped into my mind when I read your latest poem. I've been poetically dry lately and not had inspiration to write anything. I admire your ability to create consistently. I look forward to my Saturday morning reading.
This was enjoyable right from that picture Regis and I loved the way you told your story with just the bit of humor at the end..But isn't it true anbout songs and memories?? love to you and yours!
You've captured the time, the love of the berry and the cherry, , and you've captured your readers. This is a very good offering, and I appreciate it. May I mention that at age ten, in my native Georgia, I picked strawberries for 3 cents a quart basket. Hell, I ate almost as many as I put in the tiny little baskets. Good memories! Thank you. - Bill
Your poem has the most alluring fragrance, monsieur, and is plump with the sweetest juice of pleasant memories. Ahh, everything must change, but thank God we can reflect on good things past and grin. That picture makes me mouth water. ~~Nordette
