My Veteran on Veterans Day
My father disappeared when he died
I never got to read his poetry
Nobody told me anything but
Everything about him is classified
My father was a combat veteran
Of two wars out in the open and
Another one that nobody could know
About that went on when he went out
To do what to forget about although
I knew as I grew to understand
My father was a complicated man
But I look in the mirror and see
My father who was not look back through what
Would appear to be the other side
And passing through the glass from him to me
From the other side a sense of pride
In transcendental solidarity
The other side of reality
Impressed but not surprised I hear him say
About all the poetry and that
The family is with me from inside
Some people forgot but I did not
He disappeared but never went away
My veteran on Veterans Day
Love ya!
Jane
Amen!
