Sometimes, holding onto memories is good, but when we find ourselves living just for the memories, it is time to toss them like we do garbage so they don't become health hazards, as garbage does when kept too long.

Memories

Memories, leftovers from the past

Yesterdays, past weeks, past years.

What should be done with them?

Do I just sit and savor them

Relishing the good ones and ruing the bad,

Or do I toss them all

Like I do garbage, or old tattered clothes?

Can they really help me to grow, expand,

To have a brighter, better tomorrow?

Or will keeping them just rehash my pain, rekindle my sorrow?

Keep the good memories and get rid of the ones that are excess baggage that will weigh you down. Great write!

Love ya!

Barbara,
I tend to agree with Paul. All of our memories, good and bad are the complete cycle of the life we lead today. There is usually even a lesson to be learned with a bad memory; to be stored away in one's memory bank to help warn us if another such situation arrives in our life.

Thank you for reviewing my "Memory" poem which was really about a total loss of memory, now regained.

I think it is a gift from God that the passage of time lessens the sting of old painful memories and, at the same time, gives us pleasure now and again to relive and enjoy once more the memories of our favorites.

Interesting write, Barbara. Remember tomorrow, if you will, that I'm sharing with you today how much I enjoyed it!

It sounds as though there are varied responses to your poetic questions. Approaching my golden wedding anniversary, I'm inclined to focus on the good memories and not dwell on the rest -- probably good advice for everyone. Our memories need to be given to God, Who can help us benefit from them.

Memories are my unwritten history...good and bad, they brought me to where I am today, and I cherish every single one of them. This is a very thought-provoking write, Barbara. Your writing is wonderful to read...it's so peaceful...

Barbara, I've learned that there's usually nothing to go back to, so "You gotta keep moving forward. You can't go back." These words were seared into my heart as if by a branding iron one day and I am constantly on the move--determined to move forward and not look back--too often, anyway! Nice thoughts about how we should view the past. Hugs & Blessings...Frances

Some people savor them but move on with their lives knowing they had something special and a gift from God.
