In the hills of West Virginia, August weather is typically hot and humid and miserable
August Misery
August’s dew
Clings to the grass
Like some inconvenient visitor
Who keeps hanging around.
Grass blades widen,
Grow thick and as tough
As playground bullies,
Intimidating juveniles on the school’s
Hot pavement at noon.
Mowers become burdened
From dew and toughness,
Coughing clumps of wet green
And spitting them aside.
Alas! A human is seen,
Clasping the tail of his shirt
To wipe August’s misery
From his reddened face.
No sense of contentment
Can be found within,
For this scene will be repeated
Time and again,
Until August’s dew and toughness,
And clumps of green and misery
Have come to an end once more.
A different view of August than we have here in UK, as August is our best month of the Summer, and isn't usually too uncomfortable...I love the descriptions, and atmosphere...'grow thick and tough as playground bullies' is a very potent line...

Always look forward to them damn dog days. Great time to go fishing. On the water it was always cooler and the sun would burn faster than seared steak.
My air conditioned tomb no longer allows me to enjoy, much… except when I get into my air-conditioned van after it's been sitting in the sun for a few minutes… Hot potato… Ouch!
Explore the mystery of how nature makes unexpected gifts of creative wonders to an unsuspecting caregiver one late night and early morning in southeastern Georgia, USA.
A book of nature inspired poems and essays, written from the heart and soul of a life-long nature, animal, and wilderness lover, and dedicated to today’s children - Earth's only hope for a better tomorrow.
