                Warmer tomorrow......

Early morning sun so innocent and pure,
relinquishing strength to changing season.
Air feels crisp, gentle cool breeze flowing,
a newness unfolding acknowledging reason.

New and old friends came to visit today,
one last gathering, and fall on its way.
Furry, leathery, and feathered friends,
one last chance to have their say.

Stopping by before heading south,
in the warmth of a den others will burrow.
Caverns and caves providing needed shelter,
while quietly dreaming of a warmer tomorrow.

Squirrels scurry from tree to tree,
storing needed food for the long days ahead.
Doves and sparrows hover around the feeders,
no longer in fear of the ants they dread.

Bunnies lay low, hiding in bushes,
trying to blend in and remain out of sight.
Observing all the activity, wanting to play,
shadows in full view of the morning light.

Daylight grows shorter, darkened skies expand,
leaves turning colors to orange and gold.
Leaving subtle clues of what is yet to come,
autumn then winter will soon take its hold.

Sitting outside in the coolness of evening,
relaxing with friends and harvest sharing.
The demise of one season opens the door,
for passions of next with a fervent declaring.

Toads appear as the sun draws to a close,
marking their territory near spots of light.
Remaining still with eyes opened wide,
patiently waiting for the evening delight.

As darkness creeps in blanketing the earth,
time has come for a final departure.
With a keen eye and camera lens,
one last photography attempt to capture.

Early morning sun so innocent and pure,
relinquishing strength to changing season.
Air feels crisp, gentle cool breeze flowing,
a newness unfolding acknowledging reason.

I liked the poem very much, how skillfully you described the changing seasons, both with a consciousness of nature and a touch of the spiritual in subtle tones. As I am watching the season change here your words ring true. Even the scurrying of the squirrels comes home, for we have so many of them here flittering across the lawns and up and down the trees.

Karen, your powers of observation however great, pale in comparison to the delightful skill of your abilities of detailed recall. From my abode I witnessed through your penning, the onset of fall and the gentle demise of summer no clairvoyant could lay claim to. Just marvelous my dear friend. Love and peace to you. Jon Michael

You do more than commune with nature, Karen.
You caress it...beautifully...in perfect rhyme.
I particularly like these these lines:

New and old friends came to visit today,
one last gathering, and fall on its way.
Furry, leathery, and feathered friends,
one last chance to have their say.

I like how you establish a kind of wholeness by repeating the last line of the first stanza in the last line of the last. A colorful palpable write Karen. Hard to believe it's fall already - goodness, where did the year go?
Peace to you ...
