The day's stressors
Have me
Pacing the floor,
Worrying
About this,
Anxious
About that,
Wringing my hands
Both figuratively
And literally
As I contemplate things
Over which I
Have little control.
The oppressive heat
Of the day has
Added to my
Foul mood,
For the a/c has quit, and
The repairman
Is swamped.
I wish
I could shed
My clothes,
Even my skin,
In search of relief.
I pause at the sound
Of distant thunder,
And a fresh,
Cooling breeze
Stirs the curtains
Just as a summer shower
Begins to fall.
It draws me out
Onto the covered porch
As thunder rolls again
And the rain falls harder,
Releasing the green scents
Of Nature.
I lift my hands,
Reaching beyond
The roof,
Allowing the water
To baptize them,
And I feel my world
Right itself.
There is nothing
So comforting,
So soothing,
As the earth's
Nurturing.
Yes, a gentle rain can change the mood of a very hot day. You have captured it beautifully with your words.
I wish the news would quit describing normal summer thunderstorms crossing the nation as "Dangerous." I'm sure that most of them are more nourishing than damaging.
And those caught up in the floods that occur occasionally seem to be ignorance when they build their houses on the flood plane, or worse, drive into high water as though their cars were invincible.
