Poem Artwork

Feeeeeeel the burn as the sun
beams down:  a laser designed
to cook you where you stand.

Who needs a grill?  Step outside
and let the heat and the
humidity do the job.

You become Cajun blackened,
seasoning the air with
the spices from your armpits.

Begging for relief will
do no good.  You didn't know
you'd be the featured course

at the 'Come-one-come-all-there's-
enough-for-everyone!'
Texas Bar-B-Que.  Yup.  That's

how they do it down here:
they let the weather do the
work as they sip their iced

tea and sit under the fans:
just waiting to get that
first.  Delicious (mmm!).  Bite.

That one hit a familiar bone. Down here in Houston, we are grateful for a shade tree and the fact that temperatures rarely get to three digits (blame it on the humidity). To be out on the range without even a mesquite in sight, without your 10 gallon hat, is damn near suicide. And eating barbecue. Don't they know that just adds heat to the internal fire? Nobody said that Englishmen that go out in the midday sun and Texans who eat barbecue were smart. At least Texans can cool it off a bit with a Corona. ;-)

I love this poem, Karla, especially the line:

"You become Cajun blackened,
seasoning the air with
the spices from your armpits."

Now THAT is HOT!! LOL Very well penned, and the image is perfect!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your twin, Karen Lynn. :D
