I imagined, I saw
Before this war came a road where many strode
Rolling caravans of sheep and goat
Replaced now by grinding engines tread
Not a merry road
...as we came to dread
Only Daylight running
for the beauty belies of harm
before nightfall to fight an enemy unseen
...for we must be ready for an alarm
Rock or Roadside Bomb no one knew which was which
Lo' the beauty of the coming wind and storm over the ditch
Lord, forgive us, nor harm us, we hope so clear
For future nights and days so dear
My dear friends, I will not go this way again
or partake the rage
Nor see the folly of this age
I now have clearer eyes seen
On the road of hope...so green
