Friends in Flight

The time has come my fine feathered friends,
Leaves are falling, trees are bare,
A chilly wind blows, her whistle ascends.

Nature's calling to flock together,
Appoint a leader that will promise,
To guide and protect you, through stormy weather.

Your journey is long, a fatiguing flight,
Could be three thousand miles or even more,
It's time for take off into the night.

I bid you farewell as you migrate,
Listening to your goodbyes echoing,
Wishing you a safe return, next spring I a' wait.

Amazing 2 poems in one, read it over.. YOU will see...
but, I'm glad "spiritually and universally" you gave them a great goodbye before you left for their journey, I am LIFTED when I watch them in flight! I hope when they come BACK, you will grant us another beautiful poem of their arrival too!

A lovely nature write with vivid images. When you spoke of "appoint a leader" I couldn't help but equate the idea with this presidentail campaign. Well done, and an enjoyable read.

You have captured the essence and beauty of the seasonal change along with the migration of the birds. What struck me as I read this ... how our lives evolve and change. Yet, there is an assuredness that there is always a "spring" in our future.

God bless you. Kathy

Christine, the match of poetry in Friends in Flight and the photo you selected is absolutely perfect. Each seems to enrich the other tremendously. It makes me think I should be doing some of that--say in the context of a chapbook. Thanks. Don Coonrod

excellent imagry here Christine.
But some of them danged Canadian geese have given up migrating and now live in lakes in and around golf courses here in Ga. year round. Have you ever tried to putt through a maze of goose poop? A very sticky wicket.

I await them, too. One of my favorite things about Spring is the return of many of my feathered friends, and so many of them truly travel so far. That's a great pic, too.

I remember when I was living in the Midwest that the birds would go away for the winter. Being a So. California girl from birth, I found their absence added to the grayness of winter, thankful for the brilliant red of the cardnals who remained and added much needed color to the frozen landscape. I now live in New Mexico and it seems that even here, most of the birds remain. Their chatterings breathe life into even the most overcast days. Beautiful poetry, Christine.
Take care,
Sherry

Christine,
