very strange with a happy ending

Mother’s Days are wonderful, a thing a Mom
looks forward to.   But sometimes they aren’t
so perfect, let me tell you of some tales, and
hope they never happen to you.
A Beautiful May Morning, a perfect Mother’s
Day, a brunch with my husband at our favorite
restaurant, a wonderful day
But it wasn’t long, until my perfect Mother’s day
crashed and turned all wrong. When we got home,
a message on the phone. Was it one of my children
calling to say hello? Could it be that simple?  In a word...No. How I wished it was that, for
a voice came on the phone and said the words a
mother dreads, “You’re son’s been in an accident”

My heart pounded and stuck in my throat, I couldn’t speak.
I sat down on the couch, my knees gave way from under me,
and I fell down on the floor.  Horrible thoughts spinning in my mind
I turned my head around when I saw the open door.
My son hung his head in shame and said, “Sorry, Mom, I wrecked the car.”
Should I hug him or kill him for what he me put me through,
and he said, “Mom, I was looking for a mother’s day gift
for you.”
Next year, another horrible day, my daughter came from
Phoenix, called and said, “Mom, I’m in jail.” What the…
“I was speeding way too fast, I tried to avoid the cop, but
he caught me at last.  “ “How fast were you going,” “ I was only
going over a little over 100, not all that fast. But Mom,
I only did it because I was anxious to see you.”
The next Mother’s Day was the worst, because it was on Mother's day when my prescious mother died.
I thought how the past years had been,
Pure nightmares, I never wanted to celebrate Mother’s
Day again.   But somehow it seemed I heard Mom’s
voice while I placed the flowers on her grave.

I thought I heard her say to me,” though their ways were odd, they just
didn’t know what to do.” But every stupid stunt they pulled
was all about you. Enjoy the day, make them happy,
And through it all, they simply wanted to say:
Mom, I love you.

I'm sorry your mother died on Mother's Day and that your kids are a little reckless (but lucky!) My mom died near Mothers Day but not on it, so I don't really celebrate it anymmore. But I see you are great one, funny, loving and thoughtful and I hope your young adults do just fine!
PS: i see you are sending posts to my FaceBook email. How does that work (I don't mind, I like that better than coming here and tracking) Just wondering how I can send my posts to my FB friends. I'm only writing 1 or 2 poems a year now, but there big'uns!
Later, michael

A good re-telling of your Mothers' Days, Mary. Your own mother's wisdom saved the day.
Would you believe my mother died the day before Mothers' Day? Sure made it a hard day that year, so I can empathize with you.

What stories you tell so well -- no wonder mother's day does not sound like a happy event ... but you turned it around well when you said you realized they were trying to say -- I love you! Something to remember when things don't seem to be going right. susan
