There's the sun that comes peering over the tiles
And shines on the mountain, but just for awhile.
It's clear and it's golden, a painter's delight.
As it shows all things sharply in the bright morning light.
Mt. Wellington wakes and gathers her arms
Around Hobart city with all of it's charms.
The harbour gleams quietly while ships sway in waters
And gaze at the mountain that gathers her daughters.
The ferns and the streams nestle under her skirts
And the gum trees all gather to hide her great girth.
She's the fortress, defender, the mother, the tower
We sigh as we climb her, but just for awhile.
Then suddenly out on the top by the springs
We're rewarded with grandeur, like ancient sea kings.
The river, all silvered slips down to the sea,
The farms and the people, so distant from me.
Then down at my feet new beauty unfolding
Limpid green ponds with frogs all a scolding.
All aglow and aglimmer with rainbowed delight
Then upward and onward, like a bird's springtime flight.
The sunlight casts diamonds and pearls at my feet
As I lay in the grasses, great beauty to greet.
Then homeward I wander, down, down, as I ponder
The great green arches leading down to the sea.
Back to the city....the noise and the clatter.
But inward I carry the silence in me.
Love, Christine
Dave.
Be always safe,
Karen
