We have all been there

Poem Artwork

From out of the darkness they came

Two Monsters with nearly the same name

They prey on each other and also your mother

Competing for your last dime with no shame

They each have a following that’s huge

They have mastered retail subterfuge

And with everything for Christmas made in China

To the American worker they are Scrooge

The K-Martians worship the blue light

When it’s lit be prepared for a fight

That little old granny will knock you straight on your fanny

When the frenzy reaches its full height

The Wal-Martians worship the Smiley

Advertising iconic genius so wily

For price rollbacks they drool over Smiley the ghoul

And trample the greeters we thought of so highly

So let’s put both of the tribes in the same place

And attach the blue light to old Smiley’s face

Oh what fun it would be to turn the light on and see

The inevitable wrestle mania disgrace

You hit the nail squarely on the head with this one, Patrick. Well done.

It reminds me of the scene in George Owell's 1984 where Winston hears this big commotion going on and thinks to himself: "The Proles, they're finally rebelling." It turns out it was just a bunch of old women fighting over the last tin pan with a broken handle, or something like that. "God" he thinks. "If they would only get this upset over things that matter!" I believe that's kind of what you're saying in a light-hearted way.

Cute! All the reasons why I never set foot in a store. Catalogs, TV shopping, internet shopping. Have not been to a mall in a very, very long time...

Be always safe,
Karen

Amen! I absolutely refuse to get involved in the "Walmartian" Christmas this year...I've had it! All I want for Christmas is lots of goodwill...You won't find any of that in the Malls this time of the year. You have voiced my feelings....very well I might add.

I'd love to see people get back to the REAL meaning of CHRISTmas: the celebration of the Birth of Christ, our Lord and Saviour!~ After all, we could do without Black Friday: I know I could!~ Too many Scrooges and Grinches afoot then! People have seem to have forgotten "goodwill towards all men (unless those in need are children; what about the needy ADULTS and helping our poor HERE, as well as our Veterans???? They could use a decent Christmas!)", and that is a very sad thing, indeed! Well done!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., "Mule Face" (Aka Karen Lynn). :( (Thanka. A. LOT. Dude! LOL)

Christmas, the Christmas that old folk like me had when we were little children had no commercial press, no jimgles, there wasn't people around to decorate your Xmas tree or to plan your Xmas party, no Nintendo or iPods, but grandma's apple-pie and aunt Edna turkey's filling and gravy and Christmas songs not made in China, Hong Kong or Korea.
Sorry people, my Christmas was simple and was... better.
Gd bless you all, He doesn't call collect.

Georg

You nailed it on the head.If only Christ was in their lives what a blessing Christmas would be. No Christmas music, no Merry Christmas will you hear just come and spend your money that's all this day means to them.
