Walking Stick

My deck seems to be a waystation for the creatures of the woods.

At first I thought

It’s a visual trick

But no! It’s a big old

Mizzou walking stick

 

This bad boy is at least

Six inches long

It can easily touch bottom

In Jersey Ed’s Bong

 

Phasmida Phasmatodea

Its taxonomic label

Better out on my deck

Than at my dining room table

 

Somewhere in Borneo

They grow up to eleven inches

That’s probably big enough

To eat the local finches

 

But really all they munch

Are blossoms and leaves

Letting the other creatures

Do as they please

Wonderful amusing poem!
For the record, I don't even know what a bong looks like, but I'll say you are teaching me quite an extraordinary lot about nature.

You are a lucky man if your deck is 'a waystation for the critters of the wood.' I like them there Walking Sticks, they are truly fascinating to watch.

What an oddity! Changing the bong water to get a clearer vision. Cheech and Chong would say "Oh man Granfors, far out Great Dane!"

BLIMEY!!! Is he for real?! If so, he'd better just keep on walkin if he comes round my backyard... it's either him or me that's gotta take a hike and whether six or eleven inches, he looks an awful lot more from where I'm sittin! I'm sure Jersey Ed's Bong will suit him very nicely... hopefully, he'll hitch up with his friend there, Bill... Nice relaxed versifying, Patrick. You must be a born naturalist. xx
