A Grunt in Space

I’m no word magician but I can pretty much guarantee that I can outdo the Russian Space Agency’s unimaginative name for their latest Mars Probe launched last November. They named it “Phobos-Grunt.” Now I get the Phobos part since that is the name of Mar’s largest moon; but Grunt? Well, speaking of grunt, the craft’s communication systems took a big dump and it is now grunting its way back to the earth. It is expected to burn up next week during reentry. Don’t get me wrong, I love the space programs despite the naysayers who, I think lack vision

Poem Artwork

With a mighty roar she left the pad

Her mission to visit Mars

To place another stepping stone

In Man’s pursuit of stars

In passing through the atmosphere

The instruments revealed

That Phobos wasn’t listening

There was no data yield

Around the globe she circled

But a grunt was all she made

Frustrating the technicians

As her orbit soon decayed

So now next week a fireball

Will streak across our skies

Instead of touching down on Mars

The Earth is her demise

There’s quite a bit of irony here

If I may be so blunt

What the hell do you expect

When you name your spaceship Grunt

You are so right. We have to name our exploratory efforts with gallant names or they will suffer from low morale of the people working on the effort. Maybe the Russians have learned a lesson.

CUZ PAT ... WELL DONE, LAD!

WHY IN THE HELL WE EVER BACKED OFF FROM SPACE EXPLORATION ESCAPES ME.

HOWEVER, NOT SURPRISED AT 'GRUNT' BEING THE 'RUNT'
OF AN ENDLESS STORY OF RUSSIAN 'NON-TECHNOLOGY' ...

MEANWHILE, 'BACK AT THE RANCH' - CHINA SUPASSES US ALSO,
IN PRODUCT MANUFACTURING, AND WE 'OWE OUR SOULS' TO -
THE 'CHINESE COMPANY STORE' ...

BUT DO NOT DISMAY - OUR PRESTIGIOUS 'REPRESENTATIVES'
IN CONGRESS ARE 'FIDDLIN' THEIR GREEDY ARSES OFF' !!!

WHEN NOVEMBER 2012 ARRIVES, FORSOOTH -
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE ... VOTE FOR ALL NEW YOUTH !!!

INCUMBENTS - PACK YER BAGS N' POLISH YER RESUMES ...
'CAUSE ALL YOU 'RAT BASTARDS' NO LONGER WILL GET YER WAYS!

A H & H NEW YEAR'S TO ALL !!! TK...

I haven't a clue...well I am high, so that may explain it, but if it grunted only once, wouldn't that be a good reason to call it grunt...?-) Jurseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey

To make matters worse, I looked this up to see what it might mean in Russian. The online dictionary told me it meant "ground". Well, it certainly is grounded as it grunts. :)
