Neptune's Trident

It's a bad idea to make Neptune angry.

Poem Artwork

I went down to the summer seashore

Expecting dune and wave

With foam and whispers quietly

Fond memories to save

The shore and waters were frozen

Despite the summer’s heat

Into twisted shards of Neptune’s tears

His trident at his feet

I cried to him “Where are the waves?”

But he just hung his head

In pure despair with darkened eyes

And this is what he said.

“I gave you pristine beauty

Blue oceans for your use

And as I look around me now

Can only weep for your abuse”

“A solemn gift so roundly soiled

Its creatures gone for good

My generosity squandered

I will do now what I should”

In anger he threw his trident

Deep into the sky

Piercing clouds that blackened

That soon began to cry

Frozen tears began to fall

Flakes of Neptune’s rage

“I’ll come back in a thousand years

To turn this foul story’s page”

As he faded into the distance

The ice began to rise

As the fiery trail of his trident

Signaled mans’ demise

I awakened to the TV’s drone

Mythology was the show

But looking out to see the summer’s bloom

The ground was covered deep in snow

That was some dream. For telling your awakening because it showed the sea as frozen just like your surroundings in winter and not the summer paradise you are wishing for. Your dreams have fervent imagination.

Sad, scary, prophetic,,,,,, sounds like a bad dream that could become a best seller.

Nicely done, Sir Patrick.

It only stands to reason that one day the abuse is going to catch up with us.....great writing, Patrick! It's so sad what's happening to our beautiful planet!

Old Neptune's not the only one weeping these extremely sad days,
We're decimating Earth's land, sea, and skies in many horrid ways.

To the Pacific ocean, old Neptune should do his worse,
As it is the people of California that treat it with their purse,
Thinking that if they spend enough money,
Their future will be then quite sunny,
But those of us on the east coast,
Only find this idea quite funny...e
