A precious gift

This poem is about a precious gift; but sadly enough to some it is bad news.

Poem Artwork

 It starts as a tiny spot;

Which to the naked eye, barely visible

But with time that little dot,

Becomes a bump that’s to all visible.

The mystery of this growth

Is overwhelming to Mankind;

Even the giver and receiver both,

Are as well overwhelmed at their kind.

But the greatest mystery of all

Is how this wonderful gift from above

Can both be a curse to some,

And to others a blessing to adore.

To the unplanned womb,

It is called ‘unwanted’; some say,

It’s a serious mistake; a set back and a broom,

That sweeps all their dreams away.

Pregnancy to the planned couple

Is always news of celebration and joy.

As they both anxiously await to curdle

That precious gift of a child; and it’s a boy!

That little bundle of joy is a two edged sword that cuts at our values as the population of the earth reaches the point where we will have to decide who stays and who doesn't. Perhaps the child unwanted by its parents, should not come into the world, unaffected by religious or other opinion. And perhaps, like me, when I become a burden to everyone, should be allowed to check out early to make room for billions to come.
