Rudy was quite a reindeer
mile-high flying was a fright.
He is retiring this year
to become a reindeer light.
Years ago, one Christmas Eve
Santa brought him home to stay.
“You’ve got to light my way, deer
otherwise can’t fly by night.”
Comet wished him happiness,
others were itching to fight.
“I once was the leader here,”
Vixen nearly popped his light.
Cupid, a silly reindeer,
would kiss any reindeer who
teamed with her, replaced Dancer,
who shod hooves with red shoes, new.
Prancer, Dasher and Donner
would deck bells on Blitzen’s neck.
They always made a racket.
Santa would say, “What the heck?”
Now as time was drawing clear,
everyone was eating beans.
Needing gas to fly around—
‘twas economical means.
Please don’t toss a cigarette
jet fumes will loom overhead.
They fly when the light are low
so folks won’t smell any lead.
After Christmas Eve this year
Vixen once again will rule.
Rudolph won’t cry, won’t miss it
nor will he miss reindeer drool.
They never taught those lessons
when he went to reindeer school.
He’ll just squat down smiling---
being reindeer light is cool.
