I am the shadow of the moon,
Darkness against light hewn.
Alone on certain moonlit nights,
Until a snow-white owl alights.
Flew quietly down out of the dark,
Feathered wings make their mark.
The knowing bird looks around,
Night silence makes no sound.
Filled with an awesome spirit,
A life within once lived on merit.
Eyes finally give the bird away,
Without need of anything to say.
Moon shadow moves thru trees,
Now a thing alive with mystery.
Moon shadow lies everywhere,
Even without eyes, it can stare.
The night now goes back to sleep,
Closing weary eyes without a peep.
The moon lends depth in milky white,
Moon shadow makes ghosts of night.
