A poem about a turkey

Poem Artwork

Let us sit at the table and enjoy a big feast
for I have baked the apple pie without yeast
I sang to the turkey and now he feels fine
so go ahead, uncork a bottle of ruddling wine
Give thanks with a grateful heart then eat
with gratitude & thankfulness, its all meat
except for the mash potatoes and the cranberry
its all pagan, this poor bird wil never drink sherry
If you see a bee in my season bonnet its because
I happen to love turkeys, with a whole lot of fuzz
I will not shine for you for sadly here he roosts
on a silver platter as we celebrate and boost
If you feel a little sluggish after the big fat meal
think of the pride that you plucked from his steel
once upon a time that old bird was a clucking
now he just sits and doesn't know a single thing
I'm not laying the guilt trip but all I say is this ,
the least you can do is give him a big kiss
So on Thanksgiving don't bow your head in vain
if you don't give thanks, then thats a crying shame !

Well, I feel compelled to let you know that "single thing" does not rhyme well with "clucking." But if you want a list of words that do, I only know of two. Call me and I'll let you know what they are.
Happy Thanksgiving!

If I was able to give the bird a kiss, then I wouldn't be eating him. My food comes wrapped from the grocery. I try not to think of the animals. Thank you for the guilt. I might have to forgo eating the bird this Thanksgiving.

I ENJOYED THIS, MYSTIC. WELL THE OLD TURKEY DOESN'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT ME BECAUSE, FOR MANY YEARS NOW, I DON'T EAT MEAT ANY LONGER. I'M A PESCETARIAN (LACTO-OVO). HOWEVER, THE FELLOW DOES LOOK SO 'CONTRITE' WITH THAT BIG RED ROSE IN HIS MOUTH...I AGREE WITH YOU. HE DOES AT LEAST DESERVE A THANKSGIVING KISS. THANKS FOR SHARING, GREAT RHYME SCHEME. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS

I can see the struggle you had writing this. Consuming a turkey, for you is not bliss. I hope you won't think it's unkind, but one year I ate six turkeys without guilt on my mind.

Traditions we have die hard that's for sure, especially this time of year. Why pagan rituals Christians adhere. I just like the tasty fare, but I'm finding that giblet dressing is becoming too much to bear.

It might make a good t-shirt slogan in some circles: Go Kiss a Turkey. (-: Have never been a turkey fan though. Tastes funny to me, and puts me to sleep. We'll be getting our customary ham this year. Thanks for sharing Vie. This one made me chuckle. r

I must admit, I much prefer chicken or fish. But all the fixins that come around I will gladly indulge without a frown. Turkey is a tough bird for sure, perhaps we will live without eating one this year. That's better than a kiss, that's for sure!

Loved the thoughtful poem!

A very apt and timely write, Mystic Rose; and a tribute to the unfortunate turkey, particularly at this time of year. But my conscience is clear. I cannot recall when I last had turkey. Love, peace and best wishes,

Regis. 🦃🦃🦃🦃🦃
