Summoned back to see my old mom, yes my old mom, the ocean that I love...

Poem Artwork

The Surf Doth Summon…

From eight hundred miles away I heard its call,

I did, I did hear it call, the crashing of its waves, its sirens song,

The surf powerful with storms to back her up,

Waves breaking on the beach, their height so tall…

The ocean & surf, we have this special relationship,

She did tell me, she did beg, to make the trip,

To cut out on my friends, yes just for her, skip,

I found I did need her, her cooling embrace,

To return to this place, the surf it did me, chase…

Down the swell, to the breaking white froth,

My surfboard and me, the ocean tasting the likes of a salted broth,

To be thrown off my board, it did take me a bit,

To remember my place, she did discipline me with that hit…

The sharks and dolphin, swimming around me in unison,

Singing the song of the sea, the sirens song, that drew me back to the sea & sun,

She asked in her own special way, to never leave dear friend, I miss you so,

I tried to explain, I tried to tell her in a way she would understand,

But she is the ocean, the surf, the sea, all three,

She is my mother, my sister, my friend and compatriot,

We both see eye to eye, but I cannot bear to tell her,

I no longer live within sight, as I did as a child,

I know her anger and therein she would go quite wild,

So never will I tell her, never will I let slip,

That she is anything less than the friend I have kept though out my life so beguiled…

Wow! Susan Rowse has read my mind and written my heart.. read her comments below, and you've read me as well. We have a great kinship, you and I, Eddie M, with 'mother ocean'... she fills my head and calls me her child. This is a wonderful, passionate piece. katy xox.

I'm a fish...a Pisces and the ocean is my home. Without saline in the atmosphere I can't breath and without the salt spray on my face I dry up. It's a fact. The ocean...once inside of you...will change your life and give it more meaning and passion. I agree.
Susan
