Found my retreat,

Tis’ really, you guessed it, a treat,

On a porch swing listening to the wolves,

This kind of living sounds really neat…

Just us five,

Two dogs, a horse, Rene and I,

Stocked up for winters cold breath,

Surrounded by snow-capped mountains,

So far in the sky they go and so high…

Christmas lights year around,

Deer, antelope, and smaller critters abound,

Over looking an ice covered lake,

At the far opposite end, a small village,

Is where we buy our provisions,

I find myself especially drawn to venison steak…

No roads to speak of,

Though in the garage we keep the Jeep,

The lake our means of winter travel,

A horse drawn sled; must not let our clothes unravel…

The local animals know us,

They leave us alone,

Giving us a wide berth,

Still leery of these humans,

I understand, after all it is here their earth…

Gorgeous picture lovely hideaway, nice snow for Rufuz, but only for a getaway, not for good. You'd never make it away from the old briny, Ed!Good poem!

Sounds like heaven! Um, all except for the snow and ice part.
No, really. You paint the picture so beautifully, I am
tempted to fly up there and disturb the peace. You and Rene
sound so warm that even without the horse and dogs, must be
sooooo cozy. Not that I'd come if the ani-mules took off. . .
which would be highly unlikely, given the deal they got. Oh come on. Know you spoil 'em.;) Thanks for the dream. Love, Pea

It's nice to see you take yourself serious, Ed! This is really great poetry! This is what an author strives for--->versatality. Your new bio pic looks like a young Robert Redford in Jeremiah Johnson and what you just described here relates well. I would like to see you post more of a serious nature. You are very good at it! Love you, Ed. This picture accompanying Forget the Far North would just about inspire anyone to be a nature-based poet! Say hi to Rene and Rufuz.
