Poem Artwork

When first discovered,

Heroin was medicinal,

I think I lived in the wrong time,

Forget the herb,

Give me Bayer brand heroin,

For as little an amount as a dime…

Used opium for asthma,

And in different kinds of wine,

Bet that would make clean blood plasma,

I now don’t like wine, but would with an opiate,

Drink it with every meal while I do dine…

So, in the early 20th century,

You could do all manner of powerful drugs,

There was no law against any of them,

So you’d just get high, and forget going to the penitentiary…

Times have not changed that much in that regard. The more prohibition, the more crime spreads. I appreciate your thoughts, Ed. Love and peace to you,

I don't believe these drugs were readily available, or cheap, to rural populations. In those times many men went to ruin through drugs and drinking, leading to the temperance movement. Shortened lives, for sure.

Well, some remember that Coca Cola really used to be lashed with the happy leaves product...(now I know why people took Coke and not Pepsi)

Gives one thoughts to ponder...however could it also cause a lot of people to become indolent and useless if you abuse the use...just wondering;-)ET
