Suffice it to say, I just love trees!

Poem Artwork

“I STAND ALONE”

                    Amidst open fields of greenery,

                    I STAND ALONE!

                    Braving winds of unparalleled fury,

                    I STAND ALONE!

                    Staring down horizontal rains,

                    I STAND ALONE!

White out conditions during winter months,

where nary a human soul will tread,

                    I STAND ALONE!

None of my kindred near enough to touch,

                    I STAND ALONE!

No one to reach out too,

                    I STAND ALONE!

My roots run deep into rich New Jersey soil,

                    I STAND ALONE!

My rings date me back to revolutionary times,

                    I STAND ALONE!

If we are to foil the best laid plans of the British,

We must play our cards according to Hoyle,

                    I STAND ALONE!

These memories stand out so strong,

As during the revolutionary times this country could do

                              no wrong,

                    I STAND ALONE!

We have come a long way since then,

I have stood alone all these years,

Seen humankind shed a million tears,

But our country is ever as strong as the roots

of this and thrice a million other trees,

                    That bind her without fear.

                    I STAND ALONE!

Excellent, Ed. Analogy of strength is "rooted" in your lines along with the symbolic "nature" us humans seem to take for granted. b

Being a tree hugger & patriot myself Ed, I apprecitate the sentiments expressed. I like the analogy of strong trees & strong country standing alone in the face of adversity. Excellent write!
