I dedicate this poem to Jerry Bolton who was raised,he says, around cotton fields. Jerry is among the very first friends who noticed my work here.

Poem Artwork

 Silk cotton pods open up

Shimmering in the sun

White softness, the  tree  unfurls

 The creamy  cones   come stiff

Bursting pods

Release  mystic white

Magic it creates

Render joy

The black eyed seed

Flying cotton fluff

Dancing round  above

Spilling on  earth below

 Sober  the spread

The shining white

Resemble all that is pure

 She clean and soft

The mystic earth  forever splashed

In her cotton spread

Endures one and all

In cotton  wool

Her pride ,her strength

The earth showers

 Her powder snow hair

 Is silky smooth

Nature designs

 Everlasting delights

Cotton bloom, the feel  I love

Keep me earthed in life long

The shroud  I pray, be soft and white

When dust to dust I return

A magical description of cotton within its mystical journey, and the feelings it instils...
I can see and feel the blue sky above...and all you have described so vividly...
Nature provides us with so much wonder when we observe with an open Heart...
Your work never fails to move me....Thank you again JK....
Love, Diana...

Cotton is so important for clothing, yet the thought of King Cotton is a reminder of nearly 200 years of slavery conducted as a normal way of doing business in the colonies and in the United States until 1865. Still, your ode to the plant is both colorful and intriguing.

WoW! You really got into the cotton ball for sure. I was raised up around fields and fields of cotton, and have picked a few sackfuls in my day.
