THE TRUCK DRIVER
The truck driver pulled off to the side of the road,
And when he was asked why,
He said he had a load of onions,
And they were making him cry.
He said, “I might be a rough and tough trucker,
A gear jammer with lots of brawn,
But because of those onions I’m hauling,
I just needed a shoulder to cry on.”

You made me think of that pig hauler that I followed for miles, gagging along a two-lane road trying to find a place to pass. I don't believe that driver ever wanted to pull over or to get caught in traffic because of the stench his trailer emitted.
And that time at Lake Atitlán in Guatemala where I came around the corner in Panajachel and discovered huge piles of onions with workers peeling them… The air so heavy with onion that my eyes immediately began to smart and tear.
