Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
US essayist & poet (1803 - 1882)

.............................................................................................

I went for an early morning walk through the canyon

before the blistering mid summer sun could take its toll

an exotic heat haze glimmered across the rugged terrain

green spined yuccas and mauve bougainvilleas dotted the landscape

red winged gracos droned mysteriously, in superb aerial display

as I sought the wilderness, to be attuned to nature again

and rediscover my connection to divinity once more

nurturing my spirit, with all the self love I could muster

knowing how important and integral it is to my well being

I came across a land locked pool with spawning frogs and tadpoles

the miracle of life self evident, as they strove to survive the lingering drought

for I know everything has its season, and you must pack a lot into each day

further down the adventurous trail, I found an old hippy commune

rustic remnants and symbols of a bye gone era and time

I could imagine the flower power and free love of their revelries

smoking the weed to realise the dream, with Mr Tambourine Man in tow

wondering whatever happened to those hypnotic ideals

that were ignited in Frisco, and thrilled us so at Woodstock

my mind was bedazzled with missing faces from the distant past

as I pondered all the crossroads and landmarks, fate had in store for me

and at the end of the divide, there was a Hollywood shooting site

with wild west and cowboy icons, in psychadelic shanty town design

I rested up under the cool shade of a tamarisk tree, relishing my delicious cranberry juice

when all of a sudden. like a bolt from the blue

a barn owl swooped overhead, in silent trajectory

and then it fully dawned on me

it's not who we are that matters

but where we're going

that is paramount to You and I

A delightful and sensory read dear Sir Peter!

The quote from Emerson is certainly one that I have integrated into my own life, creative or otherwise. A wise man!

It is ironic to me personally, that the final revelation you had out in nature was provoked, in part, by the owl.

Michele and I find many similar experiences that validate conversations we have, or prayers we offer. A Hawk or Falcon, or if we're very very lucky, an Eagle, flying in close proximity to where we are, often gives us a roadsign or confirmation.

I personally believe that these experiences are similar to candy from the Creator and also an affirmation that He hears all, stentorian or inaudible and loves us dearly!

Many blessings to you and yours,

Richard

This is a beautiful testimony to the era of free love and peace. It all seemed as though we were making headway but look at us now...mere mortals warching peace fry in the middle east.

excellent poetry, Peter ... i guess, who we are will depend on where and when we will arrive there ...

Felt like I was there. Yuch A! - Just had to say that. I arrived about the summer of love, and everyone frowned on my calling it anything but "The City" or "San Francisco" (Girls with their San Francisco ways... ... those were the days, my friend, the days!).

Peter as an adult is mucho better.

Nothing like the desert to make us clean. Steve Jobs is a visionary who brought computing to the masses who still can't compute. I can't wait for the visionary who will make wheelchairs fly. I hope the old desert is still there when I fly over for a closer look.

Dear Peter,
Paolo Coelho writes: "The Warrior of Light has learned that it is best to follow the light...and he "has proved able to observe and to learn." You are a great warrior Peter. This is just beautiful. Love Panda :)

I've never been to the dessert Peter, except through study and the vision of your words. It's interesting that of all places in creation that the dessert would be your favorite and that you would seek peace and renewal in a place only certain vegetation and life can survive. Perhaps it is that theme of survival in nature in memories via the communal remenants of your youth...and even the western scene that awakened you ..led your eyes upward to the flight path of that owl...

Embrace the destination.

Not only is this great..But monday before last I was watching the wildlife on our lake..Kids came along with a big glass jar and somehow
knew exactly where the tadpoles were... But I had too laugh, they didn't realse that they evolved into frogs...The boy laughed the girl screamed...I panicked...This day n age near the lake with a kid screaming....

Such innocence...

This old hippie wishes he could have his long hair back and just a taste again of what seemed to be the beginning of a new world at times and perhaps it was, a lot of good and advances were created in those years.
