In the name of progress, we are fooling with Mother Nature way too much these days. Be careful what you buy and more careful about throwing it away.

A Place

When I look for a place of peace,
I look to nature for release.

For man can make towers high,
that scrape the clouds and catch the eye.

But all these wonders we make or buy,
do not compare with simple sea and sky.

Why do we flock to the beach?
Why do we climb mountains out of reach?

To find the peace that nature provides,
to escape the stress and emotion that resides.

In all the obstructions we put in our way.
Corralling conveniences that hold us in sway.

The very things that make our life easy,
also give stress and make us feel queasy.

For all of the dangers that nature provides,
vanish in an instant with peace on all sides.

When we escape to that place we all know so well,
that garden of Eden that birthed us, heavenly hell.

Where death could come easily from basic needs,
and the struggle was harsh, everything bleeds.

But oh, the peace, the stress release to be found,
back in the arms of the seasons come round.

To know our beginnings and all that we are,
to gaze at the sunset and then spy a star.

To feel nature's wrath as well as its cure,
to drink from its waters and know they are pure.

All we ask is a place left under the sun,
where we can play free and can still run.

For without mother nature and without our birth,
there will no longer be a place for us on this earth.

Ron, this is beautiful and soothing. You have a way of making the common place, sea and sky, special and one of a kind. I love it.

I AGREE, RONALD. BUT IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME. ONCE THE LOVE FOR OUR FELLOW MAN FADES AND THE VALUES THAT WE HOLD SO DEAR SLOWLY SLIPS AWAY, THERE'LL NOTHING LEFT BUT NATURE. AND EVEN NOW, THE GRIEVOUS ASSAULT UPON IT IS FELT MORE AND MORE EACH DAY AS THE RANK AND DECAY OF THIS WORLD EATS AWAY...AT ITSELF. STILL, THERE IS A PLACE OF PERFECT PEACE...ACROSS 'THE BRIDGE'...AND INTO HIS PRESENCE. I OFTEN USE THIS SCRIPTURE AND ITS BECOME SO REAL TO ME IN THESE TIME...'THOU' WILL KEEP HIM IN PERFECT PEACE HE WHO KEEPS HIS MIND STAYED ON THEE.' YES, THE WONDER OF WHATEVER WE HAVE LEFT CAN STILL BE ACCESSED...FOR THERE IS A PLACE OF PERFECT PEACE...ACROSS 'THE BRIDGE'AND INTO HIS PRESENCE. IT'S THE ONLY 'PLACE' WHERE I FIND PERFECT...PEACE AND ALL IS STILL BEAUTIFUL WITH THE LIGHT OF HIS LOVE.

THANKS FOR THE REMINDER OF THIS PLACE, RONALD. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

It seems like the more conveniences that man makes only inhibit our ability to appreciate what God created for us to enjoy. Thanks for the reminder to take the time to enjoy the wonders we have.

Today's World Poetry Day (since 1999)...celebrating the beautiful artistry created by poets...is also...the Harmony Day...here...Down Under...and celebrates Australia's cultural diversity...and coincides with the UN's Inernational Day for Elimination of Racial Discrimination...an opportunity to remember that...we all need "A Place"...respect...sense of belonging and a safe-productive inclusiveness...
All the above occasions address human conditions in today's world...strengthen the ties between human creativity in every aspect of art...discover and enhance the magical power of words....
Your poem's words show that...the Nature and good poetry go hand in hand and...are in line with the UNESCO's quote for 2015:

"Poetry is the universal human song, expressing the aspiration of every woman and man to apprehend the World and share this understanding with others, through the arrangement of words in rhythm and meter".

Thank you Ron, for sharing your wonderfully sensitive-inspiring-and calling for a greater good...writing....You've totally made my day!

Warm Spring Hugs! 💝

Even in its wrath, there is a certain beauty in nature. Watching the lightning in a thunderstorm, Listening to rumbling thunder. Even watching a volcano erupt can be a thing of beauty. I can find peace and be hypnotized watching a fire. There are plenty of way to find peace, but true peace comes from within. But you're right about the things that make life easy, can sure cause a ton of stress. As Spock would say, It's not logical, but it's true.

I've always wondered why the beach and mountains and creeks can bring so much release of stress to a place of peace. My dad always liked the beach. I always liked the mountains. I was convinced and dreamed I'd run away from LA's heat and urban death zone of sidewalk and asphalt onto a pine surrounded lake. Nature is precious. It takes us back to our birth as a species that was once in communion with nature, not destroyers of environments that recharge us and don't cause plants and animals' extinction. Thank you for this. It caused a shift in my brain from today's duties to relaxation and hope for at least one day a week. Thanks for sharing, Danae

There is nothing like a good hike or an early morning beach walk to be able to embrace serenity for me. You touched upon all that I feel in this write.

Love ya!

Ron--

You capture well that odd metaphysical tension between the man-made constructions in which we sometimes entrap ourselves rather than utilize to liberate ourselves. Nature can challenge us in many severe ways but then rewards in splendid fashions as well, such as being able "to gaze at the sunset and then spy a star."

Greatly enjoyed the music and wisdom of these lines. Have a fantastic World Poetry Day.

Nicely penned, and credit due you for not allowing the delusion that nature is all flowers and sunshine. Your reference to its "wrath" is what makes Nature real, for there never has been, or ever will be, yin without the yang. Nirvana, utopia, heaven, hereafter, et al and whatever else one chooses to believe above and beyond empirical truth, is not unlike Nature: a vortex of clashing energies, some enjoyed by our 5 senses, and others relying on our innate intuition for understanding, reality is the experience of the storm in order to appreciate the calm, or as your 2nd to last stanza proffers, "...where we can play free and can still run..."

You touched on many things, but one thing was ever-present. Peace. I have finally found peace Ron, and it has nothing to do with mountains (except the mountain's I climbed mentally), nor were there seas, nature was not how I found my peace. Yes! We are in the process of destroying the beauty around us, but peace can be had even though all around us is chaos. Peace comes from within.

This is wonderful, Ron. What a dream world we could have if the world weren't so over populated and over polluted. This is very well written.
