Everyone tries hard to make a comfortable nest. Who are we to destroy others’ comfort at our behest?

Are We Truly Free from the Perils of This Earth? Ron AI

Comfort

Oh, to sleep well at night,

And be well fed.

Have enough cover,

Even have a bed.

To endure the desert heat,

Hot sand where you tread,

Parched throat and lips,

Inferno sun beating head.

Frigid cold wind blows,

Through cracks in walls,

One slip on the trail ice,

Thousand foot falls.

When a fog of mosquitoes,

Descends upon flesh,

ticks and the deer flies,

All seek blood fresh.

Lost at sea without bearings,

Drifting wind tossed waves.

Hoping for freshwater rain,

amid raw fish craves.

This planet we live on.

Is a perilous place.

It’s also very beautiful,

When perils are erased.

So when you settle in to enjoy,

Streaming movie, drink and snack,

Think of those with no food in their bellies,

Trying to sleep fitfully with what they lack.

Bare necessities taken for granted,

Could be gone in an instant, you see,

with the seeds of hate we planted,

Thinking we were eternally free.

Fabulously-intricate compilation of image, setting the tone for this tumultuous depiction of global society. My favorite lines are: “This planet we live on. Is a perilous place.” The image got us ready for that concept. And here is an idea that forms from the last two words: ‘eternally free.’ The idea = freedom is likely never free because it is mercurial. I wonder if infinity is free? Glad to be back to wondering about things like this, Ron. Thanks! ~~ djl

We are so lucky to have all the comforts but many take it for granted. So many with nothing, no warm bed or food, sheltering themselves in the cold, dirty weather. I wouldn't last with all the bugs out for our blood. You hit it all here Ron, great write.

Not a comfort poem at all. And as tick season is here I found that stanza cringe worthy indeed!

Bare necessities taken for granted,

Could be gone in an instant, you see,
I am beginning to see this more and more each day
dear Ron, with the costs rising, and the political unrest
who knows where we are heading ? I'm grateful each day
for every morsel of peace and nutrition that comes my way,
Thankyou for always writing a treasured poem, have a blessed day

The first line in the first stanza was like an alarm going off in my head. I am a life long insomniac so you instantly had my attention. That one fact aside, the rest of your poem made me think of how fortunate I am to have the bare necessities, as the overwhelming majority of folks do not. Thank you for the wake up call to be thankful for what I have.

A lot of wisdom in this poem. Hope everyone who reads it gets it.
