              Color Spectrum.......

Brisk breeze traveling, riding the jet stream,
warm bright sunshine on a bitter cold day.
Leaves somersaulting, swirling upwards,
others hiding under bushes out of the way.

Rabbits, squirrels, and toads take heed,
sensing there is soon a change to arrive.
Gathering seeds, straw for added warmth,
even animals have a strong sense to survive.

In search of food to sustain their young,
listen closely to hear their haunting cries.
Hawks, wings spread, gliding with ease,
vanishing in clouds moving across the skies.

Lowering, growing darker, picking up the pace,
wind becomes stronger, clouds swim in haste.
Trees begin swaying to an ancient rhythm,
unearthly energy soon to lay waste.

Sparrows and crows are pushed and tossed,
desperately trying to return to their nest.
Soon they tire of churning air currents,
searching instead for another place to rest.

Minuscule pellets shining and glimmering,
absorb the color spectrum on its ancestral descent.
Gracefully cascading, a purpose to transform all,
throughout the night remaining incandescent.

First light and through a child's eye,
peer out and see all covered in pristine white.
Silence now blankets and protects the land,
as the angels played with glee and delight.

Tree limbs distorted, bent from the weight,
streets and sidewalks all appear the same.
Grass slumbers and animals hide,
waiting for spring when the land is tame.

Brisk breeze traveling, riding the jet stream,
warm bright sunshine on a bitter cold day.
Leaves somersaulting, swirling upwards,
others hiding under bushes out of the way.

You capture the natural spectacle very well, and imbue it with an authentic sense of wonder that conveys its nuanced nobility, its marvelous mobility and a strong sense of its rugged beauty, as well as its cyclical quality. Excellent piece of poetry.

Your images, Karen,
are strong, immediate and intimate, they connect the reader to the expression in the clearest, most meaningful way.
And I love the sense of realism but of optimism, too, that underscores the entire piece.
