Sturdy sentinels
emerge from the mist and
bow gracefully as they
greet the rising sun -

Neighbors "hellooo" each
other as they go get
their daily quotient
of sorrowful news -

The smell of coffee
and breakfast cooking wafts
in the morning air,
stimulating hunger -

A cat staggers in
an exaggerated
goose step when its paws land
upon dew kissed grass -

The sun is friendly;
no storms in the forecast
as it promises
a lovely day ahead -

Sleepy eyed drivers
curse at the morning light
as they coax their cars
into traffic jams -

Songbirds ready their
voices for glorious
exhultation expressed
in pure harmony -

And I greet the dawn,
grateful for another
day to write poems of
the wonders I see.
