God be with those affected by Hurricane Katrina. Y'all are in my prayers.
I've been through remnants of two storms, Camille and Alicia, but that's small potatoes compared to what y'all are going through.
I don't know what it's like, but this may come close...I don't know. The words came to me, and so, I write.
With banshee roar, the sky turns liquid in its darkness, illuminated only by my fear, because the power went about the same time as my nerves did. The storm screams my name and I hunker down in suddenly flimsy shelter, watching the water boldly entering my home through windows of rain and cracks I never new existed ... the roof snap, crackles and pops off into the whirling madness outside; the fingers of the fury reach into my heart, shaking me to my core, leaving me at the mercy of devil winds.
Earth-shattering, Karla, and of the type that reaches in to the depths of the human soul and psyche. "The storm screams my name"... what a horrendous thought, but you hit the nail right on the head here and in a way that I have never thought about before: when our fear looms so large and commanding, it does, indeed, seem that it is OUR name that the danger is calling and coming to get. Deeply shocking and leaving us wretched... all we can do is pray for the right things to be done in the right way and at the right time... and for many, many miracles in the lives of unique and ordinary individuals to take place that they might remind them that their plight does not go unnoticed. Wonderful visuals Karla, you can almost feel the fury of the storms, it must be awful, my only experience with that kind of fury is I have survived two tornado's....great write!

Karla, I'd say you hit the nail right on the head. I went through 3 last summer. While I didn't lose my roof, the sounds and sensations you are describing are on the mark. It is a very scary experience and my heart goes out to all who are living this nightmare at this very moment. ~ Sara
Karla, a fantastic capture of the unsettling emotions such frightening storms can cause.We can only imagine what it's like if we haven't been there, but we all have had some experience with storms and know the anxiewty they can cause. Excellent write!
