Severe weather season got off to a roaring start yesterday evening and overnight. High winds; vivid lightning; heavy rain and hail; tornado watches and warnings across parts of North Texas and Oklahoma.
Thank God, no damage where we are, except shattered nerves. I hate this time of year...
late night thunderstorms shake sleepers out of their beds and onto the floor;
thunder underlines words penned by lightning across the turbulent skies;
the wind chases its tail and spins itself dizzy in tornadic fits;
heavy rain and hail bombard the pavement with shock- and-awe precision;
tornado sirens moan the advent of danger screaming from the clouds;
stormphobics unite in panicky meetings of 'what-do-we-do-now?'
welcome to the start of severe weather season ... Springtime in the Plains.

Another well written piece and being your neighbor, I know the feeling. It's weird though, I am more afraid of earth-quakes than tornadoes. I guess b/c I am used to them and like you have lived through some terrible times. Though the train like sounds are what get to me horribly.
What imagery and word choice you have utilized in this dynamic show of nature's furry! WOW!! Excellent yet again, Storm Spinner! I LUV the stanza about the wind chasing its tail! BRILLIANT! BRAVA!

I saw the weather report this morn saying your area on watch for all day. Keeping you both in thoughts and prayers! this is the part of spring that has me nervous as well, in the north, occassionally tornadoes, but more likely it is the danger of Ice storms, beautiful but deadly.

Yep. Spring is in the air, so are tornados. Had one in Arkansas a few hours ago.
