This was taken August 29, 2005, in Burleson, Texas, a long way away from the main path.
"She Was That Big ..."
... full skirts flirted as she passed by; all we got was clouds to the East and some gusty winds; those along the Gulf Coast were getting pounded by the beautiful disaster Katrina was. She was that big; before she caused misery and destruction, she peeked over my shoulder as my twin sister took this picture. Captured for a brief moment in time, she then moved on, riding off into the sunset ...
Wow!! This brings it all home, Karla.. so personally captured, like you two were real acquaintances... Chilling and compelling in equal measure. I love the personifications you do of the natural elements... you have a true instinct and understanding of and for them, somehow... a love-hate relationship, you might say! These are chilling words Karla, like the perfect storm. Katrina was much more than just a storm though. I believe it was one of the most powerful divine signs that America has been given. Well done!

Katrina was a devistating hurricane, the likes of it not seen before. Maybe if it was handled better, more people would have gotten out safely. Such a shame.
Unfortunately we have'nt been able to harness or control hurricanes.Am glad she missed you.. i don't look forward to this coming hurricane season.. Hopefully the US will be spared. Its out of our hands..Great picture and poem....M
Nature will always have her way, no matter what we try to do to harness her or how we try to change her poetry...she sets her sights and she makes her path and those of us who are in her way, God help us all. With Katrina, we watched her churn, we heard all the warnings and yet, it was beyond comprehension the brutal power she displayed. Excellent writing, Karla...cute photo, too!
