We only had to do a year, now, the military men and women in Iraq are doing an eighteen month tour. I feel sad.

It is such a black mark on American history that cannot and should not be forgotten, boys sent to die in the thousands and not given a scrap of respect by their gov't and a lot of times not even their family and friends. Well said

Resounding write capturing the hell lived once we come home. Perhaps one of the very best I have read about the losses suffered individually by many of our vets. Thank you for this one.

Eyes fall down in hurt, the pain remembered, seen in the homeless on streets, in va wards, no faces just old voices reaching, grave shift duty, waiting death, forget never, remember hard but necesary, a good report, I watched him die a hundred times, when it finaly came he was ready, but I the coward live, from bed to bed I wander looking for the face, but mine was not there, good writing.. O, this one hurts, grabs you at the throat, leaves you gasping for air, as you experience the terror this soldier felt, then the helplessness as he was gravely injured, leaving him changed in mind/spirit/body forever. A powerful reminder of why we should NOT forget and always remember. Thank you for YOUR service, Karla! BRAVA! Extremely well written!

Too many didn't return, Karla. And too many suffer 40 years later with the PTSD from that long forgotten tragedy.
