Officially in a heat wave, as afternoon temperatures climb into the one hundreds and low temperatures hover around eighty degrees. Supposed to continue unabated through at LEAST next weekend. And then, there's August ...

Pavement and I are one,
melted together in
a miasma of heat.
Sweat running down my face
liquifies the asphalt
so it sticks to my feet ---
hot out there. Cannot wait
for Autumn; will be the
first one out there to greet
its arrival. Until
then, I get to know part
of South West Thomas Street ...
"miasma?" gorgeous word! ...all those liquid letters running together. This write is delicious. Can I have another bite? (Thew! I spit out the seeds, and let the juicey words squoosh over my teeth again...)
Excellent visuals, Karla; you made us feel the heat of a Texas summer (and I'm not saying that 'cause we LIVE here!). Very well penned; thank GOD for central air!!
(((HUGS))) and much love, your twin, Karen Lynn. :D
I like the way you combined yourself with a part of a living city...well done and yea I'll be looking for Autumn too especially September when I go to Loudon NH to see my first NASCAR race.
Hi Karla,I can't stand the heat especially when the humidity is very high and the dew point is around 60 plus.Last week we had a heatwave that lasts 7 days.I love the spring, fall and winter, but not the summer lol.I enjoy reading this poem, take care
Its cooled off a bit here in NJ...at night, like right now its 74 but last night was down to 62, really good sleeping weather...stay off that black top, but if necessary, be sure to wear shoes...Ed
Sounds absolutely miserable. And here I sit with a horrible summer cold - totally oblivious to all that is going on. I trust Dolly's mess was not in your neck of the 'woods.
Take care and stay off the pavement. God bless you. Kathy
Well don't know if you noticed but you're also talking to the pavement...check it out...you've got an acrostic - PS hi - yea, if you're gonna wear asphalt on the tread of your shoes, you might as well get acquainted! Nice conversation with Haawwwtttt, Karla...
A naïve councilman and a down-on-her-luck single mom try to save their county’s last stand of forest from greedy developers and a dysfunctional government.
the way you tell it. -gene.
