... with 'War of the World' skies ....

Poem Artwork

"Don't Mind ..."

... the rain scenting the air with cool
refreshment, slaking the thirst of
parchedness.  Don't mind lightning
or thunder putting on a display to
rival the 4th of July.  Don't mind the
wind absorbing the stagnancy of
Summer heat.  It's when they gather
forces overhead, with "War of the
World" skies, catching weathermen
off guard; it's when they toss hail like
softballs, when they drop a tornado
to ruin the afternoon ... then I mind.

I remember being out on my little four-wheeler once when it rained pea-size hale, and I thought I was going to be beat to death! I can only imagine softballs... and tornados? Well, I'm very blessed to live here as far as that goes, only the SNOW... well, we had our July; now it's just beginning to freeze at night again... The good news, is who needs A/C? Just open your windows a crack at night, and you'll be cool all day. --Charlie

Ahhh but how boring would our world become if everyday was cool, balmy and calm....like life the weather needs it's moods.

Yes, Karla, I know what you mean. I love rain but when that thunder clashes loudly, and lots of lightening joins in, I cower in my chair and read. lol! I like the way you write about so many good ole "down to earth" things.

Beautifully written, Karla. You can smell the rain in the air, and the impending storm.

You're absolutely right. I've seen hail here as large as golf balls. I was sitting on the toilet seat and I heard that roar and for the life of me I couldn't stop peeing. I think the roar frightened me so much I just kept on peeing. By the time it hit my roof I was too frightened to do much else but just sit there and wonder if the world was coming to an end. I save some of those big hailstone in my freeze for about five years and finally threw them away. That was a frightening time. Nice write, Karla.

I surely don't mind the storms anymore either. But when it hails, then I take cover. It has been some summer so far with bad t-storms frequently even at day. The weather has changed some. Your updates are very charming and the photos are so nice to see. I don't do camera with photos no more so enjoy yours very much.
